Foxborough Outage Update: Less Than 200 Homes Still In The Dark

As of Monday afternoon, nearly half the town is without power.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — National Grid is warning residents that they could be without power for days as the area recovers from a storm that knocked out electricity for thousands in the state.

The number of customers without power across Massachusetts has fallen to below 275,000, but National Grid is saying restoring power "could be a multi-day effort," and towns were told it could take up to 72 hours. That means some across the Bay State may be celebrating Halloween - and beyond - with no power whatsoever.

Despite fears of a multi-day outage, crews are making some headway as of late Monday night, 985 homes in Foxborough are without power, which is an improvement from when nearly half the town was in the dark. By 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, that figure was down to 195.

At one point Monday morning there were more than 310,000 statewide without power.

The outage is likely to bring back unpleasant memories for those who were in town for the storms of 2011 and 2012. In 2011, several parts of town were without power for days following Hurricane Irene and six years ago nearly to the day, 89.7 percent of Foxborough woke up with no power following a nor'easter that forced the town to ask residents to not take part in Halloween trick or treating.

About a year after the nor'easter, Hurricane Sandy took Foxborough's electricity for a few days, but Halloween was spared.

As of Monday afternoon, Halloween in Foxborough is on.
