Foxborough Part Of State Bid For Amazon

The bid calls for the highly desired second Amazon headquarters to be placed across from Gillette Stadium.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Could the biggest e-commerce company in the world find a new home in Foxborough? State officials think so.

The Gem of Norfolk County was one of 26 communities included in the state's bid for Amazon's second headquarters. The proposal calls for the company to set up shop across the street from Gillette Stadium on Route 1. The big promotes 1.5 million square feet of development on 200 acres and an additional 1.2 million square feet of existing development with immediate access to Patriot Place.

According to the proposal released by the state, the site is one of the largest shovel-ready permitted site in New England.

Just in Massachusetts alone the competition to be Amazon's second home is fierce. Other proposals include Union Point at the former South Weymouth Naval Air Base, Suffolk Downs in Boston, and the Fall River-New Bedford region.

Whoever gets the second headquarters should expect a large influx of workers. Amazon's second headquarters with house a reported 50,000 employees.
