Foxborough Police Follow Meteor to Alleged Tire Thief

Police say Steven DeGeorge was attempting to steal tires from a Route 1 dealer.

FOXBOROUGH, MA - The light from a meteor that could be seen across New England led to the arrest of a Millis man, police said.

Steven DeGeorge, 52, was arrested and charged with trespassing, disorderly conduct ,larceny over $250, malicious damage to vehicles, possession of a burglarious instrument, and exhibiting another person’s registration, according to court documents in Wrentham District Court. He was arraigned on May 17 and is free on personal recognizance.

At about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, police received a report of a fireball in the sky and possible fire in the woods near Dalzell Brothers Volvo on Route 1. While Patrolman Kerry Kilroy scanned the wood line, he received a report from Patrolman James Cantana that a man was seen running from the dealership to the woods.

The man, identified as DeGeorge, was placed in handcuffs by Cantana. When asked why he was running, Cantana refused to say what he was doing.

During a pat down, police allegedly found 15 lug nuts from a vehicle tire, flashlight, car keys, center cap from a Volvo tire, and a tab from a tool box for a jack. Back at the dealership, police found a Volvo on a jack without tires and five nuts on the ground.

Patrolman Lucas Drayton was able to locate DeGeorge's vehicle near the woodline, along with two tires that allegedly belong to the Volvo at the dealership.

Inside DeGeorge's car was vehicle registration that belonged to a man from Norfolk.

DeGeorge told police he planned on selling the tires for drug money.

He is due back in court on June 23 for a pretrial hearing.
