Foxborough To Replace Equipment At Booths Playground

"We're going from sand to fiber chips and rubber pathways," said recreation director Debbie Giardino for handicapped accessibility.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Equipment needs to be replaced at Booths Playground after failing an independent inspection. According to recreation director Debbie Giardino, the equipment is outdated and cannot be brought to modern safety standards, so the equipment and surfacing will be replaced entirely.

One of the reasons why the playground failed inspection was because it's not handicapped-accessible. Changing the playgrounds surface will go a long way towards accessibility, Giardino said.

"We're going from sand to fiber chips and rubber pathways," Giardino said.

A new playground is expected to cost about $89,000. Some of that will be paid for with fundraising, department funds, and applying for grants, but the town will also be asked to pay for some of playground as well, Giardino said. A warrant article for a capital improvement project will be sought at annual town meeting.

If the project is approved at town meeting on May 11, the recreation department would get the money in July and be able to work with the department of public works to start construction in the fall.
