Foxborough Stands United Against Hate

The Foxboro Jaycees took over the Common Thursday night to promote friendship and stand up against hate.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — In case there was any confusion, members of the Foxborough community would like to make it clear that hate is not welcomed in town.

The Foxboro Jaycees held their “Stand United Against Hate” event, an event designed to be an evening dedicated to friendship and promoting tolerance.

Tuesday night, Lynda Walsh of the Jaycees told the selectmen that the event was organized after a woman posted on a local Facebook page that her son was the victim of a racial slur. The discussion led to a call for action from the Jaycees and the event.

"It's good for us to be here together. To send a clear message that words matter and when there are words that are uttered in the public arena that go against the values of the community, we need to state that those words are not welcomed," Father Ed Cardoza of St. Mark's Episcopal Church said in remarks to open the event.

The Jaycess had activities for everyone, with speed-friend making , a reading of the book "Fill My Bucket," a prize wheel, and a reminder for children that words do hurt.
