FOXBOROUGH, MA — Family, friends and fellow officers, some playing the bagpipes, crowded the public safety building Tuesday night to swear in Michael Grace as Foxborough's next police chief. Grace, who's been with the department for 21 year, took over for retiring Chief William Baker.

Grace, a Foxborough native, rose through the ranks in his career with the department. He went from patrolman to sergeant to his most recent position of lieutenant before eventually becoming chief.

Town Manager Michael Keegan welcomed the crowd, telling them he has confidence Grace will be a great police chief.

"It requires dedication, commitment and good judgment to meet the public safety challenges of today," Keegan said. "It's my judgement that Mike Grace is up to meeting these challenges. I believe he cares deeply about the community, and more importantly, I know he cares and respects the men and women under his command."

Grace was sworn in by Town Clerk Robert Cutler. Per tradition, his police chief badge was pinned on his uniform by his wife, Kirsten, alongside their three children and his parents. Grace said he was grateful to continue serving the town he loves.

"Our residents are compassionate, our seniors are adored, the school system is second to none and we just so happen to have the greatest NFL football team that calls Foxborough its home."

Grace thanked his family, co-workers, Baker and Selectman and former Police Chief Edward O'Leary. He thanked the two former police chiefs for their guidance and service.

"It's an incredible amount of time dedicated to public service and they both did it so well," Grace said. "I thank you both."
