Foxborough Residents Targeted in Tax Return Scam

About two dozen people have filed reports with local police.

As stressful as tax season may be, it just became worse for some Foxborough residents.

For whatever reason, the town has become a targeted by scammers according to WBZ.

Former selectman Mark Sullivan told the news station that his social security number was used to file taxes in the hopes of getting a return. He said that he discovered the issue when the IRS sent him a letter informing him that his returned was flagged for potential fraud.

About two dozen people have reported problems to police. Foxboro Police Chief Edward O’Leary says that tax fraud now accounts for 15 percent of criminal activity in town, with no explanation why a high number of residents have been targeted.
