Igo School Fourth Grader Dies During February Break
Superintendent Amy Berdos announced Monday that Isaiah Spencer, a fourth grader at the Igo Elementary School, died during the week off.

FOXBOROUGH, MA —Isaiah Spencer went on vacation last week under the assumption that he would be back this week when classes resumed Monday. The fourth grader tragically did not return.
Superintendent Amy Berdos announced at Monday’s school committee meeting that Spencer, a student at the Igo Elementary School, died during February break. The announcement came just before a group of students from the school presented a video on the Great Kindness Challenge, which included Spencer.
A moment of silence was held in memory of Spencer prior to the presentation.

“(Monday) was a very sad day at the Igo School but there was a lot of love in the building that really inspired us,” Igo School Principal Michael Stanton said. “It’s nice to see that we were inspired by him and the kindness that he’s brought to our lives as well.”
This wasn’t the first tragedy for the school district this year. Anthony Scaccia, a 6-year-old at the Burrell Elementary School, died in a well-covered murder-suicide in September.

“Just when you’re so proud of how things are going, something hits you,” school committee Chairperson Bruce Gardner said. “It’s tragic, disappointing, I feel like we’ve had several losses like this in the past year and over the nine years I've been here we’ve had several of these but boy, our heart goes out to Isaiah's family.”
Gardner added that he hopes there isn’t another tragedy for a long time.
The school district’s mental health spent Monday at the school assisting students and staff, Berdos said.
