Improperly Discarded Cigarette Blamed for Lakeview Pavilion Fire

The cause cited in the incident report has been confirmed by the full investigation.

An improperly discarded cigarette is now officially the cause of last year’s fire that destroyed the Lakeview Pavilion.

The Foxborough Fire Department’s conclusion for their investigation matches the incident report from May 2014, according to the Sun Chronicle. Fire Capt. Ed Noonan was the lead investigator.

When Noonan initially started his investigation wait staff described a cigarette burning on the ground near where the fire started, but that was not initially considered proof.

During excavation, a lower burn pattern that was found indicated a source of heat had ignited combustibles in the area. Witness statements, and the location of the cigarette led Noonan to his conclusion.

While investigators know what started the fire, the person responsible for the cigarette remains a mystery,
