Jerod Mayo To Take Over For Bill Belichick In New England: Report
The former All-Pro linebacker will now take over as Patriots head coach after more than two decades with Bill Belichick.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — New England Patriots fans won't have to wait long to learn who Bill Belichick's successor will be.
According to ESPN, assistant coach Jerod Mayo will replace Bill Belichick as head coach. Mayo, 37, will be the league's youngest head coach.
Adam Schefter reports that the team will introduce Mayo at a press conference next week.

Mayo became the obvious heir apparent to Belichick over the past few seasons. His coaching career as inside linebackers coach with the New England Patriots in 2019 after a long playing career.
Mayo was drafted by the Patriots in the first round of the 2008 draft and spent his entire NFL career in New England, retiring following the 2015 season. He was named captain for seven consecutive seasons (2009-15) and is a 2014 Super Bowl Champion.

Mayo made the Pro Bowl after the 2012 and 2010 seasons when he led the league in tackles and made the 2010 Associated Press All-Pro First Team. He led the Patriots in total tackles in each of his first five seasons and became just the second Patriots player to win the Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
