Jimmy Garoppolo Signs Biggest Deal In NFL History
The former New England Patriot is about to get a big payday.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Tom Brady's former backup has just signed the richest annual contract in NFL history. Jimmy Garoppolo — better known around these parts as Jimmy G — has agreed to sign a five-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers. Sources tell Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network that the new contract is worth $137.5 million — the biggest in NFL history on an annual average basis. Not bad for someone with seven career starts.
The former heir apparent to Brady was drafted by the Patriots in 2014. His big moment came in 2015 when Brady served a four-game suspension related to Deflategate. While Garoppolo's tenure as starter was cut short due to injury, he impressed in his six quarters of work.
Garoppolo was traded in the middle of the season to the 49ers for a second-round pick — a return even then thought low for the much-heralded backup. He started five games for the team in 2017 and won all five.
