Man Admits To Robbing 5 Banks, Leading Police On Chase: Patch PM

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Today is Wednesday, Oct. 14. Here's what Patch has been covering south of Boston today.

A Rhode Island man admitted to robbing five banks with a Weymouth man and leading police on a high-speed chase from Foxborough to Attleboro, federal prosecutors said. Dong Lee, 50, of Providence, pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court in Boston to five counts of bank robbery.

According to federal prosecutors, Lee and his accomplice, Charles Lamont Wheeler, 46, of Weymouth, robbed banks in Andover, Boston, Braintree, Avon and Brockton over a one-week span in September 2018.

Prosecutors said both Lee and Wheeler were arrested Sept. 14, 2018 after leading Massachusetts State Police on a high speed chase from Gillette Stadium in Foxborough to Interstate 95 in North Attleboro. Officers were able to catch the suspects after Wheeler crashed near the Toner Boulevard exit.

After more than four years at the helm of the school district, Weymouth Superintendent Jennifer Curtis-Whipple announced she's leaving her post at the beginning of the next year. In an email to parents and faculty sent Wednesday, Curtis-Whipple said she made the choice to leave for "professional growth and family."

"This has been a hard decision," Curtis-Whipple said. "I have been with Weymouth Public Schools since 1995, and all the staff are truly part of my family. "It has been an honor and a privilege to collaboratively work with staff and families towards achieving educational goals for all students. I will always be grateful for the support of my colleagues, school friends, families and students that have made WPS a wonderful place to work."

Stoughton Man Killed In Milton Crash

A Stoughton man died in a head-on crash on Interstate 93 in Milton, Massachusetts State Police said.

State Police said Stephen Zorn, 24, was killed in the crash Saturday while driving on the wrong side of the highway and causing a four-car crash. Three others were hospitalized following the crash.
