Man Tries Pinning Foxborough Cop Into Building Before Chase: PD
A "routine stop" escalated when the suspect tried pinning the cop against a building with his car and sped toward Rhode Island, police said.
FOXBOROUGH, MA — A routine traffic stop became a close call for one Foxborough police officer Monday night when a Rhode Island man tried using his car to pin the officer against a building before leading officers on a chase through Wrentham and Cumberland, Rhode Island, according to police. Around 9 p.m., police said they pulled over Jonathan Cleveland, of Pawtucket, at the America's Best Value Inn on Route 1 because of a registration issue with his car.
But the stop became anything but routine after Cleveland tried pinning a police officer against the building and sped away, police said. Police said Cleveland led officers on a chase through Wrentham, where he intentionally struck a police cruiser and drove at another. The chase ended in Cumberland after Cleveland pulled into a driveway and surrendered. No Foxborough police were injured during the chase.
Cleveland was taken into custody by Cumberland police and will face charges out of Wrentham District Court.
