Martellus Bennett Says He Would Likely Decline White House Invite if Pats Win Super Bowl

The Patriots tight end was asked about a potential visit during Monday's Media Day.

HOUSTON, TX — If the New England Patriots win another Super Bowl title this Sunday, don't expect tight end Martellus Bennett to make the traditional trip to the White House.

Bennett told reporters during Monday night's Media Day circus that he most likely wouldn't go because he doesn't support President Donald Trump, a break from the support the president has received from quarterback Tom Brady, coach Bill Belichick, and owner Robert Kraft.

Following a weekend of confusion, anger, and general disaster for President Trump's executive order on travel for residents of seven muslim-majority countries, Bennett tweeted Monday that America was built on inclusiveness, not exclusiveness.

If the Patriots end up making the trip to D.C., it wouldn't be the first time a member of a Boston sports team declined an invitation from the President. After beating the Seahawks, Tom Brady backed out of a team visit with President Barack Obama due to "family commitments;" former Bruins goalie Tim Thomas skipped his team's 2012 visit to the White House; and in 2008, then-Red Sox GM Theo Epstein and outfielder Manny Ramirez declined a visit with President George W. Bush.
