Movie Filmed in Foxborough Booed at Cannes Premiere

The Sea of Trees, which was partially filmed in the Hills State Forest, was booed at its premiere.

A movie filmed in the Hills State Forest was panned by viewers at the Cannes Film Festival Friday evening.

The Sea of Trees, directed by Gus Van Sant and starring Matthew McConaughey, received an overwhelmingly negative reaction at Cannes, with Variety critic Scott Foundas stating that the film was, “one for nobody.”

Last summer, scenes from the movie were filmed in the state forest. The recreation hall and chapel at Cocasset River Recreation Area were also rented.

While unpopular with the debut audience, the reaction may not be an accurate measurement of the movie’s prospects. Other films such as Inglourious Basterds, Taxi Driver, and Crash were also booed at Cannes.
