New England Patriot Vince Wilfork Helps Police Save Woman in Rollover Crash

Wilfork assisted police with freeing a woman from a vehicle on Route 1.

New England Patriots’ defensive tackle Vince Wilfork did more than stop the Indianapolis Colts offense Sunday night.

After the game, the Patriots star helped the Massachusetts State Police free a woman from her vehicle near the stadium.

“I just saw a car turned over and turned around and just wanted to help. I think anybody would do the same thing,” Wilfork told reporters at Gillette Stadium on Monday.

At 12:45 a.m., troopers responded to reports of a vehicle rolled over on Route 1 in Foxborough. Not only did they find a woman trapped in a vehicle on its side but Wilfork was also on the scene, checking on the driver.

“I saw the lady in there and I asked her was she OK, could she move, and grabbed her hand and kind of talked her through, got her up and actually pulled her out of the window. I actually opened up the door and pulled her out. It wasn’t a big deal. Like I said, just seeing somebody who needed help and I helped them,” he said.

As trooper Kenneth Proulx held the doors of the vehicle open, Wilfork helped remove the operator out of the vehicle with one hand.

Wilfork left the scene shortly after the arrival of Foxboro Fire and EMS, ending what was certainly a memorable day for him.

“I was just lucky to help. I don’t want anything from it. If I see that a million times, I’ll do it a million times, no matter what the situation may be. Luckily, my wife and I were able to actually help and be there when it happened and get her to safety,” he added.

Later, the driver, Mary Ellen Brooks, 38, of Hanson, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
