Full Liquor License For Hops And Grapes Granted By Legislature

The Foxborough beer and wine store will be allowed to sell liquor, pending Gov. Baker's signature.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — A beer and wine store in town may be allowed to start selling liquor soon, following committees in the state house and senate approving a bill granting an additional license. Both the house and senate approved the bill on Monday. It now awaits Governor Charlie Baker's signature.

According to Bill H. 4768, the new license would go to Hops and Grapes, which is located on Route 140 at the Foxborough Plaza. Hops and Grapes would allowed to sell all alcohol on the premises, but they may not serve drinks or allow people to drink at the store. The license cost the store a one-time fee of $5,000 as well as an annual fee.

If the bill becomes law, it also grants the board of selectmen the right to revoke the license if the store violates any rules or regulations. If the license is revoked, the town owns the license and has the right to reissue it to a new store.

The licensing process for granting Hops and Grapes a full liquor license started a couple years ago, but Town Manager William Keegan said the store was not included in the first round of licensing. This past May at annual town meeting, Hops and Grapes submitted a petition for a warrant article to allow the granting of the license. Keegan said residents voted in favor of the petition at town meeting.
