Patriot Place Celebrates 10th Anniversary

What was once a lone stadium on Route 1 has come a long way.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — When the Sullivans moved the New England Patriots to Foxborough in 1971, the idea that the area could be home to a five-time Super Bowl champion or a premier shopping center were not even considered to be in the realm of possibility. Yet in 2017, the Patriots celebrated their fifth league title and the 10th anniversary of the Patriots Place

The shopping and entertainment center opened in 2007 with the opening of the North Marketplace, which included New England’s first Bass Pro Shops, Christmas Tree Shops, Bed Bath & Beyond, and the since-closed Circuit City. A year later, the main South Marketplace opened for business, bringing restaurants, a movie theater, and more shopping.

A decade later, Patriot Place representatives call the development a model for the recent development boom of mixed-use complexes surrounding sports venues while offerings tens of millions of annual visitors world-class retail and entertainment experiences.

“When Patriot Place opened in 2007, we set out with the goal of providing guests near and far with unforgettable experiences - from family shopping, entertainment and restaurants to exciting nightlife and world-class health care,” Patriot Place General Manager Brian Earley said in a release. “We are proud of all we have been able to accomplish over these past 10 years and the world-class experiences we have provided to millions of visitors each year. It’s been an incredible journey and I’m excited to see what the next 10 years will bring.”

Since 2007, Patriot Place has created more than 3,000 full and part-time retail and hospitality jobs and has generated more than $23.4 million in revenue to the town of Foxborough through taxes and fees, according to officials.

A decade later, Patriot Place continues to change with the times. Reflecting the changing economy, what was once retail stores is now Splitsville. Old Navy has left and in its place stands a Hilton Garden Inn. A section of stores has been removed for a new medical building that is under construction and will connect to the Brigham and Women’s/Mass General Health Care Center.

As part of the celebration, shoppers can win $250 Patriot Place gift cards by filling out the daily survey found on any of Patriot Place’s social media pages. Everyone who enters the daily giveaway will automatically be entered to win the grand prize of a $1,000 Patriot Place gift card on Nov. 24. The contest runs through Nov. 24.
