Patriots' Jack Jones Has Gun Charges Dropped Ahead Of NFL Opening Day

Jones was arrested after two guns were found inside carry-on luggage at a security checkpoint at Logan International Airport in June.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Patriots cornerback Jack Jones has agreed to a deal in his gun case on Tuesday that will see those charges dropped, according to multiple reports.

The Suffolk County District Attorney agreed to drop the charges against Jones with the second-year cornerback agreeing to a deal that gives him one year of pre-trial probation and 48 hours of community service.

Jones was arrested on weapons charges after two guns were found inside carry-on luggage at a security checkpoint at Logan International Airport on June 16, Massachusetts State Police said at the time.

A state trooper was called to a security checkpoint in Terminal B at Logan Airport after two guns were found in a traveler’s carry-on luggage at around 5:30 p.m. on Friday, according to police.

The passenger, Jones, 25, of Arizona, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of an airport; possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card; and unlawful possession of a firearm, police said.

Jones was additionally charged with carrying a loaded firearm and possession of a large-capacity feeding device, according to police.

MassLive.com obtained the court's nolle prosequi, and within it, the Suffolk DA said that Jones had lawfully purchased the guns in Arizona and is in the process of becoming a legal gun owner in Massachusetts.

Though charges against Jones were dropped he could still be subject to a suspension under the NFL's personal conduct policy.

The Patriots open the new season on Sunday in a matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Whether Jones will be on the field with his teammates for Week 1 remains to be seen.
