Patriots' Josh Gordon To Be Reinstated By NFL
Josh Gordon was suspended indefinitely last season after yet another violation of the league's substance abuse policy.

The NFL is reinstating Patriots receiver Josh Gordon on a conditional basis, the NFL announced Friday evening. Gordon, who was indefinitely suspended in December after yet another violation of the NFL substance abuse policy, will show "appropriate progress on clinical care and other arrangements," the NFL said in a statement.
Gordon, 28, instantly reshapes what looked like a dangerously thin receiving corps after 33-year-old Julian Edelman, who is out with an injury. Gordon has worked out with Tom Brady over the offseason. The receiver can rejoin the Patriots Sunday, but will not be allowed to play in next Thursday's preseason game because of how long he has been inactive.
"We are all rooting for Josh to succeed, both personally and professionally," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. "Everyone shares in that hope and will continue to support him to every extent possible. But as Josh acknowledged, ultimately his success is up to him."

Gordon played 11 games with New England last season, catching 40 balls for 720 yards and three touchdowns. He said in December he was stepping away from football to address his mental health; shortly after he made the announcement, he was suspended by the league.
Gordon has missed dozens of games in his career due to substance abuse-related suspensions, including sitting the entire 2015 and 2016 seasons. When he's played, he's been an elite presence.
