Patriots, Trump Tackle Critical NY Times Tweet
The team defended Trump against the New York Times like the offensive line protects Tom Brady against a linebacker.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — We think the "45" jersey the Patriots presented President Trump with during the team's visit to the White House Wednesday was just symbolic. But you wouldn't know it the way the two teamed up to tackle a New York Times tweet critical of the attendance of the first major pro champions to visit Trump's White House.
The Times tweeted out this photo purporting to show a smaller number of Patriots attendees for this year's Super Bowl champions than the team's visit in 2015.

The Patriots, owned by Trump best bud Robert Kraft and coached by Trump cheerleader Bill Belichick, weren't about to let his image be besmirched, protecting him like the the offensive line protects Tom Brady.

These photos lack context. Facts: In 2015, over 40 football staff were on the stairs. In 2017, they were seated on the South Lawn. https://t.co/iIYtV0hR6Y

Comparable photos: The last time the #Patriots won two Super Bowls in three years, 36 players visited the White House. Today, we had 34. pic.twitter.com/Aslvf1RaXU

The president, in a shocking turn of events, took the opportunity to pile on the Times, which had already sent out an "update."
UPDATE: Patriots say # of players was smaller this year than 2015 (34 vs. 50) but total delegation was roughly the same. pic.twitter.com/Ij77Def8z5

Failing @nytimes, which has been calling me wrong for two years, just got caught in a big lie concerning New England Patriots visit to W.H.

It's becoming increasingly clear that the Dallas Cowboys can keep "America's Team." The New England Patriots are perfectly fine being "Trump's Team."
