A Saint Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn Coming To Foxborough

From WGBH: WGBH’s A St. Patrick’s Day Celtic Sojourn returns for its 11th season this March with performances in Beverly, New Bedford, and Cambridge. The production will be kicking off the performance run at Showcase Live in Patriot Place on Wednesday, March 14. In the tradition of the popular 89.7 WGBH radio program A Celtic Sojourn and its holiday counterpart A Christmas Celtic Sojourn, the show will celebrate Celtic culture and traditions through music and dance.
Host Brian O’Donovan will be joined again by music director Keith Murphy , who has been with the series since 2012. The 2018 lineup features a dynamic group of talented performers from around the Celtic world, including Open The Door for Three , made up of fiddle player Liz Knowles, Uilleann piper Kieran O’Hare, and Dublin-born singer and bouzouki player Pat Broaders. These three Irish music mainstays have created a repertoire blending newly composed melodies with tunes from centuries-old collections. Open The Door for Three is joined by concertina player Brenda Castles and harpist Maeve Gilchrist . Saoirse DeBoy and the
dancers from the Teelin School are the featured trio of dancers in this year’s program.
“With Massachusetts having such strong ties to Ireland, this is an excellent opportunity to share our musical traditions with audiences across the state while we celebrate the wonderful holiday of St. Patrick’s Day,” said O’Donovan . “We explore a culture that traces its origins back thousands of years and as such, we strive to bring our audiences a show that is both modern and true to its Celtic roots.”
