School Committee Approves New School Budget
The budget includes a 3.97 percent increase and $700,000 for feasibility study for the Burrell School renovation.

FOXBOROUGH, MA - A $32.97 million school budget will be voted on by the residents of Foxborough at the Annual Town Meeting this spring.
The school committee voted 5-0 to endorse the budget, which contains an increase of 3.97 percent over last year’s budget.
At previous meetings, an increase in special education funding, more out of district placements, and the implementation of tuition-free all-day kindergartens were cited as the reasons for the higher budget.

One last change was made prior to the vote, according to Business Manager Bill Yukna. Due to the decreasing cost of fuel, the budget line was lowered by $48,000.
On the CIP side, the school district will be asking the town for $700,000 to conduct a feasibility study for the renovation of the Burrell School.

According to Yukna, the town has to develop all plans short of schematic designs and blueprints up front before the Mass. School Building Association approves the project for the schematic phase.
On Wednesday, Foxborough was not one of the eight towns invited into the MSBA’s eligibility period, but the organization’s board is expected to invite the town at a future meeting, voting to invite 26 towns over three meetings.
