Sunday Morning Alcohol Coming To Some Foxborough Restaurants

A handful of establishments were given approval to start serving alcohol at 10 a.m. as part of "The Brunch Law."

FOXBOROUGH, MA — Now you’ll be able to enjoy a Bloody Mary or a mimosa with your Sunday brunch in Foxborough.

The selectmen recently approved earlier alcohol sale times on Sundays for nine license holders in town. Lafayette House, Bar Louie, Davio’s, Skipjack’s, CBS Scene, and Gillette Stadium can now start selling alcohol on Sundays starting at 10 a.m. The Blue Fin Lounge at Bass Pro Shop and Scorpion Bar can now start serving alcohol at the new early time on Sundays where the Patriots play a 1 p.m. home game and the Empower Field House at Gillette Stadium license, held by the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation, can start serving before 1 p.m. games at 10:30 a.m.

All the restaurants must offer full menu service as a condition.

Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill was denied their request to serve at 10 a.m. on days where there are 1 p.m. Patriots home games due to the nature of the establishment.

The change is allowed by what is referred to as “The Brunch Law.” With the town residents voting to opt-in at town meeting, the selectmen may modify alcohol licenses to allow establishments to start serving as early as 10 a.m. on Sundays. The idea is to allow restaurants that offer Sunday brunch to offer alcohol. Due to the unique nature of Gillette Stadium and Patriot Place, the board allowed some establishments at the retail center to serve early for 1 p.m. games.

The majority of the restaurant representatives said they were applying for the change so they could start serving alcohol with Sunday brunch and functions or so they could serve alcohol with food earlier prior to 1 p.m. Patriots games.

The change at Gillette Stadium will not affect the general concession stands since the gates open at 11 a.m. It will allow the home of the Patriots to offer alcohol earlier in the Cross Pavilion, Optum Field Lounge, and Putnam Club, which all open earlier than the standard ticket gates.

Board members said they are not looking to hand out earlier start times to all license holders, noting they are mainly interested in giving the modification to establishments with bunch programs like Davio’s, Skipjack’s, or Lafayette House or regular functions and events like CBS Scene

“I look at this brunch bill as truly having a brunch program. If you have an established brunch program, I think that’s something townspeople would accept,” Selectman Ginny Coppola said.

The change went into effect immediately.
