Taylor Swift Granted Extension for Gillette Stadium Show

The 1989 Tour at Gillette Stadium will be allowed to go 25 minutes over curfew.

This weekend’s Taylor Swift shows will go on for a little longer than originally expected.

On Tuesday, the selectmen approved an extension of the town’s curfew for stadium concerts, allowing the show to end at 11:40 p.m., as opposed to the standard 11:15 p.m. curfew on the condition that that the sound level does not increase during the encore and all the abutters will be notified by mail.

“We have a good working relationship with the management team. They know that we are not pleased that this was a request that needed to be made. We will do everything to make sure the volume is not adjusted during her show,” Jess Enos, the director of business development and external affairs for the Kraft Group said.

Things came down to the wire when representatives of Swift informed stadium officials on Thursday that the show would be longer due to the addition of a fourth act. In February, it was announced that HAIM would be the fourth act on select shows of the 1989 Tour, including the Gillette Stadium stop.

The addition of HAIM came after the selectmen approved the license.

Town Manager Bill Keegan said the public safety team had no concerns, nothing that the Swift audience is historically one of the better-behaved crowds.

When asked why the show couldn’t start prior to the announced 7 p.m. start time, Enos said the produced nature of the show requires a certain level of darkness that would not be available if Swift were to take the stage early.

Selectman Ginny Coppola asked why the stadium simply didn’t say no to the request, with Enos responding that rejecting the change was not possible.

“I explained to them this is a unique situation and they needed to be mindful of that and actually, not adding the act wasn’t an option because of the relationship with the act,” Stevenson said.

This weekend’s shows will be the sixth and seventh for Swift in Foxborough.
