Tom Brady Refuses to Say if He Called President Trump

The President said he got a call from him Thursday night, but the quarterback isn't saying if he called his friend.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — President Donald Trump may be talking about how he received a phone call from Tom Brady, but the Patriots quarterback is refusing to even acknowledge that he picked up the phone to have a chat with his friend.

During a press conference Friday, Brady was asked about the call and his wishes for the new president, with Brady replying that he didn't have much to say. A follow-up question asked him to confirm if he made the call.

"Did I call him? Let’s talk about football," Brady replied.

Last night, Trump said at a dinner that he received a call from Brady congratulating him on his new job and telling him that he would be fine for Sunday's game. Not talking about Trump is in line with orders from his wife to not talk politics in public.

Brady, who has called Trump a friend in the past, has tried to publicly support the president during his candidacy without actually endorsing him. That relationship got flung into the spotlight in September 2015 when a reporter spotted a "Make America Great Again" hat in Brady's locker and asked him about it, with Brady replying that a Trump win would be great. Trump went on to say that he received Brady's endorsement, but the Patriots quarterback backtracked shortly afterward.

On the night before the election, Trump told a crowd in New Hampshire that Brady endorsed him. Two days later, Brady said he was happy for his friend and swore off talking politics.
