Tom Brady on if Trump Can Win Presidency: 'That Would be Great'

Brady spoke about Donald Trump's presidential campaign after reporters spotted a "Make America Great Again" hat in his locker.

When it comes to the 2016 US Presidential election, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is backing the most controversial and popular candidate in the Republican field.

While talking with reporters Wednesday, Brady spoke with a Donald Trump ”Make America Great Again” hat visible in his locker, a gift from Trump, he said.

“I just thought it was a nice keepsake. It was a nice piece of memorabilia he sent me,” he said

When asked if Trump can win the election, Brady replied, “I hope so. That would be great. There’d be a putting green on the White House lawn, I’m sure of that.”

Trump said of the endorsement on Twitter, “A great honor from somebody that knows how to win!”

While Brady has kept his political views private over the years, the endorsement isn’t necessarily surprising given the support the businessman and reality TV star gave the Patriots quarterback during Deflategate. During an appearance on the Fox Business Channel in August, Trump said the two were close and felt that the way Brady was treated by the league during the investigation into deflated footballs was ridiculous. He would reiterate his support for Brady and the Patriots that month during a fundraiser at the Norwood home of Ernie Boch Jr.

As for if Trump can win the presidency, he remains the GOP front-runner going into tonight’s debate. In new national polls released by CBS and ABC this week, Trump maintains a lead of four and 13 percentage points.
