Two Foxborough Officers Earn Promotions

Sergeant Scott Austin was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, and Detective Kenneth Fitzgerald was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

On Jan. 16, the Foxborough Police Department held a promotional swearing-in ceremony at the Public Safety Building. Upon the recommendation of Chief Baker, Sergeant Scott Austin was promoted to the rank of lieutenant, and Detective Kenneth Fitzgerald was promoted to the rank of sergeant. Both were sworn in before Town Officials, fellow Officers, family and friends.

Austin began his career with the Foxborough Police Department in October 1984 as a reserve officer. He was appointed a full-time officer in June 1987. During his tenure with the Department, Austin has worked assignments a patrol officer, D.A.R.E. officer, detective and court prosecutor. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in May 2008, most recently working as the day shift patrol supervisor. Austin holds a Bachelor's Degree from Western New England College and will oversee the patrol division in his new role as lieutenant.

Fitzgerald began his law enforcement career in 1998 as both a dispatcher and Reserve Officer before attending a full-time police academy in 2002. He worked for two and a half years as a campus police sergeant at Lasell College prior to being hired by the Natick Police Department.Fitzgerald spent 11 years with the Natick Police, working assignments as a traffic division motorcycle officer, accident reconstructionist, and as the Natick Mall liaison. Fitzgerald joined the Foxborough Police Department in 2015 and was appointed a detective in 2017. He holds an Associates Degree from Mass Bay Community College and is closing in on his Bachelor’s Degree. Fitzgerald will work as a day shift patrol supervisor in his new role.
