U.S. Navy Captain To Keynote Foxborough Memorial Day Ceremony

The parade starts at 9 a.m. and is followed by the ceremony at 9:30 a.m.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — The town will take a moment Monday to remember those who sacrificed for this country.

The annual Memorial Day parade is scheduled for Monday morning at 9 a.m., with the ceremony at the common to follow at 9:30 a.m. State Rep. Jay Barrows, Board of Selectmen Chairman David Feldman, and Town Manager Bill Keegan are expected to have some remarks before keynote speaker Captain Gabriel E. Soltero of the U.S. Navy speaks.

Soltero, a native San Juan, Puerto Rico, received his commission in 1994 and was designated as a naval aviator in 1996. He has completed multiple overseas deployments on board aircraft carriers to the Mediterranean, Middle East, and Western Pacific and accumulated over 4,000 flight hours. Ashore, he has worked as an instructor pilot and in various staff positions, according to the town's veterans' service office.

He is a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Naval War College, where he earned a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies. He also holds a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (2 Strike/Flight awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), and various unit and campaign awards.

Following the ceremony, all are welcomed to the VFW and American Legion on Cocasset Street for lunch.
