Next for Foxborough Commuter Rail: Walpole Selectmen

MassDOT is scheduled to give a presentation meeting on the pilot program at the next Walpole Board of Selectmen meeting.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — The Foxborough selectmen may have voted to back the Foxborough Commuter Rail stop but the Walpole selectmen are expected to take up topic Tuesday night.

The state's Department of Transportation is scheduled to give a presentation meeting on the pilot program at the next Walpole Board of Selectmen meeting. The proposal will see four roundtrips from Gillette Stadium to Boston's South Station. Of concern to Walpole will be the fact that the train will travel through the town before jumping on the Fairmont line to Boston.

The program, which is scheduled to start in late 2017 or early 2018, would use the same route that current trains use for Patriots games and other special events. The Kraft Group is putting in $200,000 towards the 10-11-month pilot, according to the Boston Herald, but MBTA officials have yet to announce the overall cost of the pilot.

In 2013, the price was estimated to be around $42 million but MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said the figure is outdated.

Tuesday's meeting at Boyden Elementary School is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
