FOXBOROUGH, MA — Look out, NFL. The Super Bowl champion New England Patriots opened their 2019 campaign by routing one of the few teams that was supposed to give them a tough time in the AFC. New England throttled the Pittsburgh Steelers, 33-3, Sunday night at Gillette Stadium.

The defense stole the show with a stifling performance against Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers. But the Patriots still put up 33 points with relative ease.

Tom Brady completed 24 of 36 passes for 341 yards and 3 touchdowns, playing the whole game despite the lopsided score.

Brady started the scoring in the first quarter by finding receiver Josh Gordon, who was only recently reinstated after a drug-related suspension.

Brady found Phillip Dorsett to extend the lead to 17-0 in the second quarter.

Brady and Dorsett connected once more — this time for 58 yards against an apparently asleep Steelers defense — for the receiver's first career multi-touchdown game. The third-quarter scoring strikes squelched any chance of a Pittsburgh comeback.
