Labor Day, which takes place this year on Monday, Sept. 1, celebrates the many social and economic achievements of American workers: the 40-hour workweek, the 8-hour workday, the right to be safe in the workplace, a minimum wage, pensions, health insurance and many other benefits.
Today we’ll head to a barbecue or enjoy the hot bargains in store for shoppers at Labor Day sales. We’ll relax, enjoy our day off from work and say thanks.
