9 Things You Missed at the Selectmen's Meeting

Selectmen were busy at their weekly meeting and opened the warrent for the Fall Special Town Meeting, which is scheduled for Oct. 18.

Nine things you may have missed, if you didn't attend or watch Tuesday night’s Board of Selectman’s meeting:

  • Selectmen agreed to open the warrant for the Fall Special Town Meeting, which is scheduled to start Oct. 18. The warrant is scheduled to close on Sept. 20.
  • The Selectman approved the installation of a utility pole on Gordon Street. The pole is needed to accommodate upgraded service to Tesoro Market, said the market’s owner.
  • A Class II auto dealer’s license for Framingham Motor Sales at 635 Waverly St. was granted. The site is the former home of Long Cadillac. Selectman Dennis Giombetti cast the lone opposing vote saying he is disturbed by the number of used car lots cropping up in that part of town. But he acknowledged that the selectmen are limited by zoning regulations as to what kinds of businesses are allowed.
  • Big Papi’s Grille, on Route 9 East, surrendered its all-alcohol restaurant and common victualer's licenses. The restaurant, which Red Sox player David Ortiz lent his name, ceased operations in June.
  • Selectmen urged the Department of Public Works to look into a complaint by a resident of Concord Street that the sewer construction has dirtied his water. The resident, who says he is a senior on a fixed income, has asked to be connected to the new water system that is being installed under Concord Street. A representative from DPW told the selectmen the department is running tests on the resident’s water and will investigate the issue.
  • Approval was given to the Sudbury Valley Trustees for an amendment to the conservation restriction attached to a parcel of land on Edmands Road. The amendment will allow the entire parcel to be used for agricultural and livestock purposes, if the owner desires. Originally agricultural and livestock use was restricted to specific areas of the property.
  • Michael Gatlin was appointed chairman and Maureen Dunne vice chairman of the Economic Development Industrial Corporation.
  • Selectmen scheduled an extraordinary meeting for Tuesday, Aug. 16 to discuss the on-going search for a new Town Manager. Members of the search committee and the outside consultant that is aiding in the search process are expected to give progress reports.
  • A DPW representative reported that the next major step in the continuing sewer project on Edgell Road will be the installation of a manhole opposite Auburn Street. Once that work is completed, that section of Edgell Road will be paved. Work will then move to Auburn Street and DPW is considering extending the work season beyond Nov. 15 if weather permits.
