PROVIDENCE, RI — A Framingham man caught with a loaded pistol in Rhode Island was sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison.
Everton Luis Teixeira Da Silva, 23, had pleaded guilty in February to possession of a firearm and ammunition by an alien unlawfully present in the United States and unlawful entry into the United States, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in media release.
Teixeira Da Silva was a passenger in a car pulled over by the Providence police in August, according to the release.
Teixeira Da Silva made a run for it, tossing a pistol and $900 cash along the way, per the release.
"Following his apprehension, police immediately recovered the firearm and identified it as a green 9 mm pistol loaded with six rounds of ammunition and bearing an obliterated serial number," the release said. "Further inquiry by investigators into Da Silva’s background following his arrest determined that he entered the United States unlawfully."
Teixeira Da Silva also received a time-served sentence for unlawfully entering the United States, according to the release.
"Da Silva was not ordered to serve a term of supervised release due to pending deportation proceedings following completion of his prison sentence," the release said.
