Berklee Dedicates Electronic Production and Design Lab to Framingham Resident David Mash
Mash founded the department and recently retired from the college after 40 years.

Berklee dedicated one of its new Electronic Production and Design (EPD) labs to Framingham resident David Mash, the recently retired founding chair of the department. The lab was named The Mashine Room in his honor. Coinciding with the dedication, EPD received a limited edition Moog Synthesizer IIIc built specifically for Berklee. The modular synthesizer, worth $35,000, is a reissue of a historic Moog instrument that took weeks of patient, steady crafting to complete – using all-original documentation, art, and circuit board files.
The instrument was funded through a $20,000 donation in Mash’s name from Chris Halaby, CEO of KVR Audio and a member of Berklee’s Presidential Advisory Council, and an in-kind donation from Moog Music. The console is inscribed to Mash: “a champion for the power of technology to expand the creative potential of all humans.” Mash, Berklee’s President Roger H. Brown, EPD chair Michael Bierylo, and representatives from Moog Music were on hand for the dedication ceremony.
David Mash retired in May after more than 40 years at Berklee, most recently serving as senior vice president for innovation, strategy, and technology. As a leading authority on music technology and education, Mash has been featured on national and international media broadcasts such as 3-2-1-Contact, Newton's Apple, World Monitor, CBS Evening News, All Things Considered, and Voice of America.
