Boston Heart Unveils Personalized Reports to Help Patients Understand Heart Problems
The Framingham-based company says its reports will help doctors explain complex heart issues to patients better.

Boston Heart, with its headquarters in Framingham, launched a new diagnostic report for patients that have had advanced cardiovascular disease lab testing performed at its CLIA-certified laboratory.
Designed specifically for patients, this highly personalized, visual and easy-to-understand report helps educate patients about their heart health and treatment plans, explained a press release.
The report goes beyond the standard good/bad cholesterol explanation and provides patients with their unique heart health story based on lab results from lipid, inflammation, metabolic and/or genetic tests that have been ordered by their healthcare providers.

“Cardiovascular disease is complex and every patient’s story is different, so their diagnostic report should explain that,” said Susan Hertzberg, President and CEO of Boston Heart in a release. “This ground-breaking report is another example of how Boston Heart is pioneering personalized communication tools that are designed to improve health literacy, patient engagement and adherence to treatment plans.”
Patient-friendly language is used to explain a patient’s heart disease or risk for heart disease with the use of everyday language, metaphors and imagery. The report puts treatment considerations into context and provides personalized nutrition and lifestyle suggestions. The results from Boston Heart’s tests inform medication, supplement and nutritional considerations. All personalized content is based on thousands of articles and peer-reviewed studies, was analyzed using advanced bio-statistical tools, and has been validated with outside clinical experts.

With this new tool, healthcare providers are better able to explain the rationale for treatment and actions that may be needed to improve a patient’s heart health. The enhanced imagery, color-coding and common language allows for a clearer dialogue between provider and patient and provides answers to questions long after the patient has left the clinician’s office. The report emphasizes what targeted action is needed and encourages patients to get started or adhere to therapy in a highly engaging and supportive way.
