Call2Talk is Awarded Grant from Tufts Health Plan Foundation for Tele-Check

The grant will help fund the non-profit's TeleCheck service launched last September in conjunction with Call2Talk.

Call2Talk, a direct service of the United Way of Tri-County, received a $14,957 grant from the Tufts Health Plan Foundation to support area seniors in need.

The grant will help fund the non-profit’s TeleCheck service launched last September in conjunction with Call2Talk, a direct service of the United Way and partners BayPath Elder Services, and Advocates, Inc. Identified at-risk seniors are contacted by senior volunteers through Call2Talk, a confidential mental health and emotional support helpline. These seniors who have various barriers to emotional wellness are called on a weekly basis to check-in, listen and provide emotional peer support along with a much needed social connection. Volunteers providing this service have been trained to recognize and assess risk for depression and suicidal ideation.

“Since the inception of the program, TeleCheck volunteers have made hundreds of calls to area seniors with dozen’s transitioning out of the program due to enhanced mental health. The Tufts grant will allow us to continue to meet the emotional needs of the elderly community”, said Eileen Davis, Director of Call2Talk in a press release.

Cynthia, a TeleCheck volunteers adds “The entire TeleCheck team is honored to be a Tufts grantee. Being able to support those who are feeling isolated and alone is very rewarding. Our callers often tell us our weekly call is the high point of their week and how much they look forward to our call.”

Call2Talk is available for callers 24 hours a day - 7 days a week at 508-532-CALL (2255).
