Car Hits Minivan, Minivan Takes Out House Steps

Mother and son okay in accident on Warren Road Saturday.

Witnesses said a car coming from the Learned Pond Beach went through the stop sign at Shawmut Terr. and hit a mini van, sending it out of control onto the front lawn of 231 Warren Rd.

The van came to a rest in a flower bed, shrubs and a fence dividing 231 from the house next door. The van took out the wooden steps leading to 231's front door, which is at the corner of Shawmut and Warren.

One of the neighbors said she's seen muliple accidents at the corner with people coming from the beach, but this is the first time she's seen a car hit one of the houses.

A hit-and-run accident within the past year took out the fence and shrubbery of the house across the street, and left the victimized driver temporarily trapped upside down in her vehicle. In that earlier accident, firefighters requested the jaws-of-life hydraulic cutting tool to get the driver out of her car, but were able to gently pull her from the wreck without having to cut into the metal.
