Celebrate a Woman Leader on International Women’s Day, March 8

Athena Leadership Award to be presented at luncheon hosted by United Way of Tri-County

United Way of Tri-County (UWTC) and Women United, the United Way’s affinity group focusing on improving the lives of women, will be celebrating International Women’s Day by honoring a local leader with the Athena Leadership Award. UWTC and Women United members, along with Luncheon Sponsors Bose Corporation and FM Global, will present the award to a leader in the MetroWest/495 region committed to excellence, serving the local community and mentoring the next generation of women leaders.

The award luncheon will be held at the Framingham Country Club, 11:30 am to 1:00 pm March 8.

There are 14 finalists for the award and the winner will be announced at the luncheon next week. Several local women, including the Eleanor Anbinder, Co-Found of Find the Cause Breast Cancer Foundation, Cheryl Tully Stoll, Framingham City Council member, and Yvonne Spicer, Framingham’s first Mayor, are among those nominated for the award.

Keynote speaker, Chief of Business Operations for National Grid in the U.S. Marcy Reed will address attendees. Marcy is chief of business operations, engineering and process at National Grid, where she oversees the US gas and electric process and engineering and customer group divisions.

Marcy will talk about her career at National Grid. She joined the company in 1988 and has held various positions in finance, merger integration, and corporate affairs. Reed also spent three years in London as the head of Investor Relations for National Grid, right after National Grid acquired Niagara Mohawk.

Now in her current role, Marcy says that she really enjoys that her work brings her out into the community, where she’s able to meet people from all walks of life and touch their lives through National Grid’s commitment to service. She’s also committed to helping create the next generation of female leaders in energy and is the global executive sponsor for National Grid’s Women in Networks employee resource group.
