Elyse Torbert Promoted to Newly-Created Framingham High Associate Principal Post

History teacher hired as new vice principal for Framingham High School. He is assigned to the Class of 2016.

Framingham High School will have an associate principal post.

Elyse Torbert has been promoted to take the position, that was never advertised publicly.

Framingham Public Schools has not formally announced the hire, but a letter dated Aug. 11 sent to students and parents of the Class of 2016 announced Torbert will no longer be the vice principal for that class, and has her new title was in the masthead. (attached photo).

In the letter to Juniors, which several copies were forwarded to Framingham Patch, Torbert said it “has been a pleasure getting to know you all over the last two years. Even though I am transition into a new role as the high school’s associate principal, I sincerely hope to maintain the relationships that I have built with many of you.”

Framingham Patch emailed Framingham Superintendent of Schools Stacy Scott on Aug. 6 asking if a decision had been made on the new Associate Principal position, along with a job description, and if a new vice principal for the high school had been hired.

Scott’s response on Aug. 10: “We did create the associate principal position (accomplished through realignment of funds for the data manager position) and the new VP is being hired immediately to replace Elyse due to her promotion. (The search should be closed by now.”

There has been no formal announcement from Framingham Public School administration on the new position’s job description and the hiring. Scott is on vacation through Aug. 18.

The new vice principal for the Class of 2016 will be Greg Lagan.

Lagan is the former head of the history department. He started his job on Aug, 13.

Lagan is who mailed the letter to the Class of 2016, dated Aug. 11.

Framingham High also has a new principal Adam Goldberg.

Freshman start school on Tuesday, Aug. 26. The rest of Framingham High start on Wednesday, Aug. 27.

He was hired earlier this year to replace Mike Welch who left to become Superintendent of Schools in Dedham.

In early July, Framingham Public Schools began advertising for a vice principal position at Framingham High.

Framingham Superintendent of Schools Stacy Scott said then “no one (vice principal) is leaving. We are creating an Associate Principal position to support building wide initiatives.”

He said an “internal candidate is likely to take this position and the vacancy is being posted in anticipation.”
