Employment Consultant

The Employment Consultant is responsible for assisting individuals in securing and maintaining employment.

Overview

Support includes guiding individuals in placement planning through training and assessment, conducting job development with area employers, facilitate employee workplace integration, and provide on the job support as needed. The Employment Consultant is responsible for maintaining ongoing verbal and written communication with the employer, employee and with each individual’s support team, to facilitate job modifications / accommodations as necessary and to ensure that a whole life focus to services is provided.

Responsibilities

  • Complete individual intake interviews, assessments, and orientation to program services.
  • Assist in developing and implementing job placement plans for program participants.

  • Solicit job opportunities at local businesses based on participant placement plans.

  • Complete job analysis of potential job opportunities.

  • Facilitate the interviewing process with individuals and perspective employers.

  • Work with employers, individuals and support teams to identify training and support needs and provide on the job supports as needed to remove any barriers to successful employment.

  • Solicit feedback from employers regarding individual’s work performance and adjust support plans as necessary.

  • Coordinate individual’s transportation to and from work. Provide transportation as necessary.

  • Maintain open communication regarding program services with individuals, their families, funding source representatives, day program and residential program staff.

  • Maintain individual records as required including timely and thorough completion of all necessary program assignments, progress reports, billing requirements, and other required documents.

  • Complete all necessary department forms to assure open communication.

  • Assist individuals with personal care and daily living skills as needed.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of work incentives and laws influencing employment for people with disabilities.

  • Remain alert and responsive to the needs of the individuals at all times during the scheduled shift.

  • Attend and actively participate in program meetings and supervision.

  • Attend trainings as assigned; maintain certification of all required trainings (CPR, First Aid, SOLVE).

  • Ensure that individuals we support are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Advocates Human Rights Policy.

  • Perform all duties in accordance with the agency’s policies and procedures.

  • Strictly follow all agency Performance Standards.

  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or related field or Associate’s Degree and 2 years of related experience.
    • Ability to read English and communicate effectively in the primary language of the program to which he/she is assigned including communicating with consumers, employers, families, funding sources, coworkers and the community at large.
    • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
    • Must possess basic computer knowledge.
    • Must be able to multi-task with frequently changing priorities.
    • Must have a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a larger resource team.
    • Must hold a valid drivers’ license. Must have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to use it to transport consumers
