Ex-Cop Charged With Robbing Elderly Man In Southborough

FRAMINGHAM, MA — A Framingham man and former Cambridge police officer was arrested last week and charged with robbing an elderly man inside his Southborough garage. Timothy Caulfield, 48, was arrested after a joint investigation by Framingham and Sudbury police.

On Jan. 2, an elderly Southborough man called police to report that he had been robbed in his Carriage Hill Circle garage after visiting an ATM in Framingham. The robber made threatening remarks, but did not harm the man, police said.

A day later, Framingham and Sudbury detectives identified Caulfield as a suspect. He was arrested on Jan. 3 outside O'Brien's Liquor Store in Framingham, Southborough police said. Caulfield was charged with robbery, assault and battery of a person over age 60, and witness intimidation.

Caulfield worked as a Cambridge officer between 2000 and 2016, according to WCVB. He was released on $150 bail after an arraignment at Westborough District Court, and will appear in court again on Feb. 14. Police are also searching for a second suspect who may have been involved in the incident.
