Former Framingham Bar Will Become Brazilian Superfood Spot

A new restaurant serving acai and more is coming to Irving Street in downtown Framingham.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — A longtime downtown Framingham watering hole will soon be serving something a little more healthy than beer and wings.

The restaurant Acai.com is planning to open at 102 Irving St. serving acai fruit bowls — a Brazilian berry dessert that has become a popular alternative to ice cream and frozen yogurt in in the U.S.

Owner Gabriel Dias told the Board of License Commissioners this week that he's hoping to make his restaurant feel more like traditional acai spots in Brazil. Acai.com will have a larger seating area, music — and also ice cream desserts.

"We're trying to bring another approach to how this fruit is served here," he said before the board granted his victualler license.

The Acai.com space was most recently the Irish bar Danny Sullivan's, which closed in 2019. Before that it was The Tavern, and before that it was Connery's Inn, a sports bar that opened in the space in 2007.
