Framingham City Government Drags Its Feet On a Simple Public Records Request

On September 9, 2026, a simple public records request was filed with Framingham City Government for 7 Board of Library Trustee meeting videos:

"I am requesting all videos of the Board of Library Trustees meetings held in May, June, July and August in 2026."

It was accepted and designated request: 2026-2079.

Today, September 23, 2026, two weeks later, the following response was received:

"The City of Framingham is in receipt of the above-referenced public record requests. The City intends to provide these records to you, however we need more time to complete the responses to the requests. As a result, the City is extending the due date for these requests by 15 business days. You have a right of appeal to the supervisor of records under subsection (a) of section 10A and the right to seek judicial review of an unfavorable decision by commencing a civil action in the superior court under subsection (c) of section 10A. Thank you.

When we wonder about the efficiency of Framingham City government, this response shows how bad things are.

The videos exist, but no videos of any Board of Library Trustees meetings appear to be publicly posted, so they have to be obtained by a public records request.

It would take about an hour at most to put the 7 videos in a Google folder and share it to fulfil the public request.

With the extension, the city will have had 25 business days to respond. That is 7 calendar weeks, or almost 2 months.

For 7 videos.

No wonder we have a problem with city government!
