Framingham Examines New Location For Coronavirus Testing

The state's free coronavirus test site at Keefe Tech may close by Aug. 21, city officials said Friday.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham is in talks to relocate the city's free coronavirus testing site with the current site at Keefe Tech set to close on Aug. 21, city officials said Friday.

Framingham got a free testing location as part of the state's "Stop the Spread" program. It opened on Aug. 5, and has seen long lines ever since. The state has extended the "Stop the Spread" program through at least Sept. 12.

Cases have been rising recently in Framingham, and the city has been highlighted as a "moderate" risk location on a new map of coronavirus hot spots.

The number of cases in Framingham has increased by 39 since last Friday, according to city health officials. The number of active cases, however, had dropped to 112 as of Friday — down from the 121 reported on Monday.

The city's coronavirus death toll still stands at 121.
