Framingham Firefighters Graduate From State Firefighting Academy
Four of the graduates in State Firefighting Academy class 247 were Framingham firefighters.

STOW, MA — Framingham is welcoming four graduates and newly crowned firefighters into the Fire Department. The four men graduated from the State Firefighting Academy Class #247 on Friday.
Framingham's four graduates were Edgar Cupertino, Timothy Guertin, Ronnie Hernandez, and Joshua Prouty.
In total there were 33 graduates from 14 different departments “This rigorous professional training provides our newest firefighters with the basic skills to perform their jobs effectively and safely,” said Deputy State Fire Marshal Fournier. The Massachusetts Firefighting Academy (MFA), a division of the Department of Fire Services, offers this program tuition-free.

Today’s firefighters do far more than fight fires and at the academy, are trained to handle a number of different situations. They receive training in public fire education, hazardous material incident mitigation, flammable liquids, stress management, confined space rescue techniques, and rappelling. The intensive, ten-week program for municipal firefighters involves classroom instruction, physical fitness training, firefighter skills training, and live firefighting practice.
