FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham will share in more than $16 million from a state program aimed at making it safer for residents to walk and bike in congested areas.

On Tuesday, MassDOT announced a new round of grants from the Shared Streets and Spaces Program, which began in summer 2020 to upgrade walking, biking and transit to support commerce and outdoor activity following the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

In this round, Framingham is getting just under $200,000 "to realign the existing intersection of School and Hamilton Streets, as well as install ADA-compliant curb ramps, reduced curb radii, shorten pedestrian crossings, and a new pedestrian island," according to MassDOT.
