Framingham Giving Laptops To Students During Coronavirus Closure

School officials will distribute the Chromebooks on Saturday to students who don't have a computer at home to access learning resources.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Framingham Public Schools will give out Chromebook computers to some students this weekend to help them access online learning resources during the extended coronavirus school closure.

Superintendent Robert Tremblay alerted parents about the distribution in an email on Friday.

"We were able to identify families who need technology to access learning resources that have been made available on our website," the letter said. "If you don’t have a device for your child or children to access online learning resources, we are going to provide one Chromebook per household based on need."

School districts in Massachusetts can't offer classes remotely, but many districts, including Framingham, have put together resources to help students stay sharp during the statewide coronavirus school closure.

Gov. Charlie Baker ordered all schools to stay closed until at least April 7 in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. Framingham's schools were closed on March 11 after a parent of a Potter Park Elementary student tested positive for COVID-19. There are now over 400 cases in Massachusetts, and seven in Framingham.
