Framingham High's Rebecca Maynard Named 2024 Grosvenor Teacher Fellow

Maynard is one of only 400 total educators who have been selected for the fellowship since 2006.

The educational expedition is named in honor of Gilbert M. Grosvenor, chairman emeritus of the National Geographic Society, in recognition of his decades-long work supporting pre-K–12 teachers and promoting geographic education across the U.S. and Canada.

On April 16, 2024 Lindblad Expeditions and the National Geographic Society proudly announced the 2024 Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship cohort, which consists of 35 educators, one of which is our very own Biology and Environmental Science Teacher at Framingham High School, Rebecca Maynard.

“This is such an honor to be given the opportunity by National Geographic and Lindblad expeditions to explore Alaska’s coastal wilderness, in the company of expert naturalists, to learn all I can about this important and sensitive ecosystem’” said Rebecca Maynard when asked about the opportunity. “Being selected as a 2024 Grosvenor Teacher Fellow, along with so many talented educators, is one of the most meaningful experiences of my career. I am excited to share all I will learn with my students to inspire and empower a future generation of explorers and protectors of our planet.”

In April, Rebecca attended the Grosvenor Teacher Fellow Pre-Expedition Workshop in Washington, DC where all the fellows met and attended panel discussions and breakout sessions with other educators from each region.

This June, Ms. Maynard will embark on an expedition to Alaska on board Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic’s state-of-the-art expedition vessel. Ms. Maynard will be enhancing her geographical knowledge through interactive, field-based experiences to bring back to the classroom and our Framingham community.

“Ms. Maynard continues to be an incredible member of the FPS Team,” said Dr. Robert Tremblay, Superintendent of Framingham Public Schools. “A dynamic educator at FHS and Co-Advisor to the Environmental Club, Rebecca has made teaching and learning a career and hobby and gives tirelessly to this area of study. An opportunity like this not only recognizes the great talent in our district, but serves as an inspiration for our students and an immediately transferable enrichment of the educational experience of every student in her care.”

“Rebecca is a dynamic educator that continues to help our students reach great accomplishments,” said Mark Albright, Interim Principal at Framingham High School. “Rebecca’s dedication to furthering her knowledge through amazing professional development opportunities, like this expedition, is only the tip of the iceberg on how she transforms the classroom atmosphere and inspires our students. We are excited to see this immediately enhance our students’ experience and further encourage lifelong learning.”

Of the 35 fellows, Rebecca is one of two from Massachusetts, representing not only our city of Framingham, but the state as well. Rebecca is also one of 400 total educators that have been selected to join the Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship and offered this opportunity since 2006. This educational expedition is named in honor of Gilbert M. Grosvenor, chairman emeritus of the National Geographic Society, in recognition of his decades-long work supporting pre-K–12 teachers and promoting geographic education across the United States and Canada.
