Framingham Local Appointed To State Commission On Status Of Women

Audrey Hall, a Framingham resident, was appointed to the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women by Senate President Karen Spilka.

FRAMINGHAM, MA- One of Framingham's very own joins the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women this year. Audrey Hall was appointed to the commission by Senate President Karen Spilka. "When she asked me, I didn't even have to think about it," Hall said.

The commission works to promote equality and rights for women and girls in Massachusetts as well as provide them with a permanent, effective voice. There are 19 volunteer members on the commission in total. All commissioners are appointed by one of the four appointing authorities: the Governor, Senate President, Speaker of the House and the Massachusetts Caucus of Women Legislators.

Hall and Senator Spilka have a history that spans 20 years and started with Hall's work in Framingham's Standing Committee on Ways and Means. The two worked closely throughout the years on initiatives and programs impacting Framingham, including changing the chapter 70 education funding formula. Senator Spilka said not only was her history with Audrey Hall a facotor in her decision but Hall's passion for helping women and girls. "Audrey is smart, hard-working, articulate and cares deeply about women and girls. I know she will do great work," Senator Spilka said.

Hall currently works as a marketing communications consultant who advises businesses and municipalities on gaining public and consumer support for critical initiatives by building public trust through strategic communications and service delivery. Most notably, Hall has her own talk show in Framingham that she produces and hosts called The Audrey Hall Show, which has been running for 15 years.

While the appointment took Hall by surprise she says she is honored to have the opportunity to represent the women of Massachusetts and is excited to get to work. "To be one of her (Senator Spilka) appointees and this commission and know that I am there, kind of representing her- is one of the greatest honors," Hall said.

The commission works on countless legislative and social initiatives and programs with the goal of advancing women's rights in the state. Hall said she hopes to give input on legislative issues. "Ever since I met Senator Spilka, we’ve discussed and worked on many critical issues- sticking with them until progress was made and I plan to continue in that mode with my colleagues on the MCSW," Hall said.
